Bristol Men in Early Years Network

Come and be part of a campaign to challenge gender stereotypes and encourages a more gender diverse workforce in children’s learning, development and care. We are striving to offer all young children a broader experience by encouraging and promoting the value of diversity.

Who are we?

We are a city-wide network of professionals who work with children aged from birth to seven. The network consists of early years practitioners, teachers, Head Teachers, governors, playworkers, childminders, Family Support Workers and academics.

What do we do?

We work to transform the way we think about gender in the early years and promote the value of a diverse workforce as role models for children. We want to encourage evidence-based practice and promote gender flexible pedagogy wherever possible.

Why do we do it?

One of the most significant challenges for our children is the restrictive/limiting gender stereotypes placed on them by the environment and expectations around them. Through exploring how children’s ideas around gender are formed in their formative years, we can work to counteract the dominant constructions that define and limit children.
